# VisceFat

> AI-powered body composition analysis from photos. Estimate visceral fat (VAT), body fat percentage, and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) without wearables or scales. On supported devices all inference runs fully on-device — photos never leave the phone.

## What VisceFat Is

VisceFat is a privacy-first AI wellness app for iOS and Android that estimates:
- **Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT) score** — deep abdominal fat estimated from body shape
- **Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR)** — strongest single predictor of cardiovascular and metabolic mortality risk (BMJ meta-analysis)
- **Body Fat Percentage** — validated against DEXA imaging (R²=0.91)
- **Lean Mass Estimate** — critical for tracking muscle loss during GLP-1 medication use

## How It Works

1. **Calibrate** — enter age, height, weight, activity level once (2–3 min)
2. **Capture** — follow the standardized scan protocol; app auto-captures when pose, distance, and lighting meet tolerances
3. **Analyse** — on supported devices, on-device ExecuTorch model returns VAT score, WHtR, body fat %, lean mass in seconds; image discarded immediately
4. **Track** — weekly scans build a longitudinal body composition record alongside medication, training, and clinical notes

## Standardized Capture Protocol (v1)

Consistent conditions are required for meaningful trend data:
- **Distance**: ~2 metres from phone, on a stable surface or tripod
- **Camera height**: navel height, upright (not tilted)
- **Clothing**: form-fitting minimum (fitted t-shirt + leggings); crop/spaghetti-strap top for women gives the most accurate waist reading
- **Timing**: morning, after toilet, before breakfast — bloating adds 2–3 cm to waist circumference
- **Breathing**: relaxed natural exhale — not sucked in, not pushed out
- **Lighting**: ≥200 lux, bright even front light — face a window; avoid backlight and overhead shadows

The app enforces a pre-scan checklist and records all conditions with every scan for pilot algorithm calibration.

## GLP-1 / Anti-Obesity Medication Tracking

VisceFat tracks body composition changes for users on semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy), tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound), liraglutide (Saxenda), and other anti-obesity medications. GLP-1 medications can cause muscle loss alongside fat loss — weekly scanning helps monitor the ratio. Optional lab value inputs (HbA1c, LDL, ALT) improve metabolic risk calibration.

## Privacy & Data Handling

- On supported devices: photos never leave the device (on-device ExecuTorch inference)
- Older devices: photo sent to secure server, deleted immediately after analysis, zero retention
- No image storage, no training on user photos, no third-party advertising trackers
- Compliance: GDPR (EU/EEA), DPDPA 2023 (India), CCPA (California)
- Research data: GDPR Art.89; right to withdraw in-app at any time
- Full data export (JSON) and permanent deletion in-app; biometric auth required
