02The science of visceral fat

Understanding VAT (Visceral Adipose Tissue)

The fat you cannot see often matters more than your weight.

The hidden fat around your organs that drives metabolic and cardiovascular risk

The Problem
?BMI cannot accurately inform VisceFat estimated body composition or visceral fat. People with normal BMI but elevated adiposity are often overlooked in screening.

VAT + BMI > BMI alone for predicting risk

Body Mass Index (BMI) or weight alone cannot predict your body composition, especially visceral fat. It is hidden, dangerous fat present around your organs. Visceral adiposity or visceral adipose tissue score is the better predictor of metabolic disease. It is completely invisible on a standard scale. Waist circumference or waist to height ratio are recommended by US FDA to estimate total body fat including visceral adipose tissue.

GLP-1 & Muscle Loss
?Emerging clinical evidence highlights that GLP-1 receptor agonists may reduce skeletal muscle mass alongside fat, raising concerns about sarcopenic obesity.

Unintended muscle loss for GLP-1 RA users

GLP-1 RAs have transformed the management of obesity. However, emerging clinical evidence suggests that these agents may also contribute to an unintended reduction in skeletal muscle mass, potentially exacerbating or precipitating sarcopenic obesity, particularly in older or frail individuals with limited muscular reserves. So while people may reach their target weight loss, they in turn may not understand their target body composition, leading to unintended consequences. BMI or weight alone cannot help one understand their body composition.

Millions Are Misdiagnosed

BMI based definition of obesity can underestimate or overestimate adiposity and risk of obesity related complications. Individuals with normal BMI but elevated central adiposity/visceral fat are often overlooked in screening for obesity - even if their risk of diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol is similar to those with BMI > 27 kg/m². Individuals with South East Asian, Chinese ethnicities are particularly at high risk of building visceral fat at low BMI. On other hand, athletes with high muscle mass and BMI > 27 kg/m² are wrongly deemed with obesity in spite of their WtHR < 0.5.

03How It Works

Three steps to VisceFat estimated body composition clarity

About a minute in front of your camera, once a week.

Standardised pose protocol borrowed from photogrammetry — repeatable, auditable, and fast enough to do weekly.

Step 01

Take a photo?One-time setup. Used to anchor the regression model to your anthropometric baseline.

Stand 1.5–2 metres from your camera. Front and side views. 30 seconds total.

Step 02

AI analyses your scan? The in-app pose overlay only accepts the photo once your stance, distance, and lighting meet the required tolerance - ensuring consistent, comparable scans.

Our model estimates visceral fat, WHtR, BMI and metabolic risk from your photos.

Step 03

Track your progress?ML model returns WC, WHtR, total body fat %, VAT mass, and metabolic risk score with accuracy ranges - all quickly.

See your trend over time. Set scan reminders. Compare before and after.

Step 04

Act on insights?Weekly scans build a longitudinal record. Especially useful alongside GLP-1 medications - track actual VisceFat estimated body composition changes, not just weight.

Personalised nudges and recommendations based on your scan history and health profile.

06Why It Matters

Weight tells you

almost nothing.

Where fat sits says more than what you weigh.

Visceral fat — the fat surrounding your organs — is strongly linked to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. It can't be seen or felt, but it can be measured.

Why BMI Isn't Enough

Built by people who have watched the scale mislead.

Still unsure why you need to track body fat? Here's what endocrinologists know that scales don't tell you.

"We built VisceFat because the existing tools — smart scales, BMI calculators — miss what actually matters clinically: where fat is distributed, not just how much there is."

Our Origin

After a decade in pharma, we realized the tools powering billion-dollar drug trials never reached patients.

While developing treatments for obesity and diabetes at leading pharmaceutical companies, our founders saw a stark gap: the precise VisceFat estimated body composition analysis that informed clinical decisions was locked behind expensive DEXA scans and research labs.

Research-First Approach

Unlike consumer wellness apps, we built VisceFat on validated methods, transparent methodology, and peer-reviewed science.
